Simultaneous estimation and variable selection\nis supported through coordinate-descent penalized maximization\nwith Lasso, Adaptive Lasso, SCAD, MCP, Elastic Net, and Ridge\npenalties (no penalty is also supported). The random intercept\nis integrated out by Gauss-Hermite quadrature at every\niteration, and the two ECME conditional-maximization steps\nrespectively maximize the expected penalized complete-data\nobjective (for the regression coefficients) and the actual\nobserved-data marginal likelihood (for the variance\ncomponents), which is the defining feature of ECME relative to\nplain ECM/EM. The package provides a single-fit engine, a\nsequential/parallel penalty-parameter grid search with\ninformation-criterion or cross-validated selection,\ndata-dependent or user-supplied lambda grids, and an\nExpectation-Maximization based treatment of a completely\nmissing (at random) response, sharing the same truncated-normal\nmachinery used for censoring.
